STORING
- MISCELANEOUS
- Shovels, hoes, rakes, and hoses can be stored together in empty trash
cans. Stack extra cans inside one another.
- Determining the right size of storage space is one of the most important
decisions when choosing a storage space. A small space that is efficiently
packed will cost less than a larger space, but if you are going to frequently
use the space and move belongings in or out, a large space with racks
and file boxes that will allow you inside mobility might be best.
- Before you visit or call a storage facility, pre-inventory your belongings.
This will allow the storage consultant to give you the best estimate for
the space you will need.
- What you may or may not be allowed to store should be kept in mind once
you choose your storage space. Toxic materials, flammables, perishable
goods, live animals, explosives or illegal items are some of the items
that you will not be allowed to store.
- Label each box and keep a list of the labeled boxes. It will come in
handy when trying to locate a needed item. When storing the boxes, arranged
them so that the labels are facing out so you may be able to read them
easily.
- Place smaller boxes on top of larger boxes.
- Mattresses will keep their shape longer and better and will not bend,
if you place them upright on their side.
- Leave spaces to reach the back of the unit and put frequently used items
near the front, in the order that you will need to access them.
- Heavy or sharp objects must be kept on the floor, never on top of upholstered
furniture.
